Swing, sliding or manual: what the entrance decides
The entrance decides the gate, not a catalog page. A driveway with room to swing a leaf clear of the road can run swing gates, one leaf or two, and that's usually the simplest way to close an opening. A drive that's narrow, sits on a slope, or comes up too close to the road often calls for a sliding gate instead, since the leaf runs along the fence line rather than swinging out into traffic or up a grade.
Manual gates are the right answer more often than people expect. No electrical components, nothing wired in, nothing to service beyond the hinges. Wilson Fence builds them sturdy enough to hold their own line without an operator behind them, which is often the better fit for a gate that only gets opened a handful of times a day.

Wood, wrought iron, or a custom design built to the property
A wooden gate carries the same lumber and the same finish as the fence line it's set into, so it reads as one continuous run instead of a different material bolted onto the end of it. A wrought iron gate is where the crew's certified welders do their best work: scrollwork, an arched top, a design that matches wrought iron already on the property or introduces it for the first time.
Custom gate design starts from what's already there, the architecture of the house, the material of the existing fence, the way the drive curves in, not from a shelf of stock gate shapes. A gate built to match doesn't look like it was added on later.

Automating a gate, and what to do when there's no power at the entrance
Wilson Fence carries Apollo Gate Openers and installs both swing arm and slide operators, wired into a control box set at the post. Push button open and close, keypad or remote entry all run off the same operator once it's set.
Not every entrance has electrical service run to it, and that's not a dead end. A pole mounted solar panel keeps the operator's battery charged where running power line to the gate isn't practical, the setup you'll see on gates set back a good distance from the house or the road.
An operator that's stopped cycling smoothly, a ram arm running slow, or a control box acting up doesn't usually mean starting over. Gate operator installations carry a 1-year labor warranty, every manufacturer warranty on the hardware itself is honored on top of that, and gate maintenance runs on a twice a year schedule to keep it from getting to that point.
Access control: who gets through, and how
Automated doesn't have to mean open to anyone who pulls up. Access control systems add a layer on top of the operator: a keypad code, a remote for the household, an intercom for anyone who isn't already on the list. It's the same equipment whether the entrance is a private driveway or a commercial yard that needs a documented way to know who came and went.

A gate install is usually a one to three day job once the design and the operator are settled. From there it's twice a year maintenance to keep hinges, hardware and any operator running the way they should, and a standard $125.00 service call if something needs attention in between.
